Society of St.Vincent De Paul starts functioning in Ernakulam Diocese by the formation of the first conference in 1942 at Alwaye named St. Antony’s conference with the initiative of Rev. Fr. Ignatious(OFM). The society soon started devolping and conferences were started at Angamaly in 1946, Muttom in 1947, Pallipuram, Thaikatussery and chalil in 1948, Njarakkal ,Mellore ,Vadayar and Ernakulam in 1949, Mookanoor in 1950, Kokkamangalm,Kanjoor and Thalayolaparambu in 1951, Kizhakkambalam and vechoor in 1952.
New conferences at Vaikkom Town, Udayanapuram,VaIlakom,Thottakam and some places in kothamangalam dioceses were started in 1953. Pastoral letter published by His Highness Mar Augustine Kandathil on 14 th April 1954 helped a lot in the development of the Society.

Ernakulam C.C was officially started on September 15th of 1954 consists of 5 Particular Councils and 51 conferences. In 1958 Ernakulam C.C was bifurcated in to form a new C.C named Kothamangalam. At the time of bifurcation C.C consists of Muttom and Vaikkom PC‘s and 38 conferences, Central Council was got the institution on oct 26th of 1959. In 1965 Angamaly P.C was revived and in 1969 Ernakulam and Alwaye P.C’s were started and the number of conferences became 90.New PC’s were started at Kanjoor in 1972,Pallipuram in 1974, Paravoor in 1975 ,Korraty in 1976 and Thuravoor in 1978.

Silver jubilee was celebrated in 1979 and the meeting was inaugurated by his Excellency
Cardinal Joseph Parekkattil at Mangalapuzha seminary Alwaye. From 1979 onwards society cooperates with SAFP. Vallom and Tripunithura PC’s were started in 1981.A news letter was started publishing from 1982 on wards.

The 150 th anniversary of SSVP was celebrated in 1983.Socity flourished and nourished, new P.C’s were started at Kizhakkambalam in 1983, Moozhikulam in 1984 and Meloor in 1985 .The total number of conference became 200 in 1985.

Society celebrated the 175th birth day of Fedric Ozanam at Renewal centre Kaloor Mar Antony Padiyara inaugurate the function. .In connection with the celebration his Excellency Mar Antony Padiyara in his pastoral letter on 24th March 1988 offer one Sunday’s collection from all parish for funding the activities of SSVP.

Number of conferences became 210 and active members become 2000 in March 1997.
A few PC’s were started at Vytilla 1997 and at Malayatoor in 1999.

CC started adopting students and adopt 180 students under Vidhya Jyothi scheme. In the year 2002 CC office was shifted to renewal centre Kaloor from Baslica.In 2002 March,228 conference were there among the 17 PC’s. By the formation of PC’s at Karukutty in 2002, Thalayolaparambu in 2003, Palarivattum and Manjapra in 2004, the number of PC’s become 21.
Central council celebrates its golden jubilee in the year 2004.

A golden jubilee celebration of EKM C.C was inaugurated by Bish Mar THOMAS CHAKAITH. Special activities based on the basic needs like electrification, water supply, toilet facilities, housing, self employment program and Educational sponsoring etc were started under each conferences to celibrate Golden Jubille. Special secret collections were conducted once in 3 months for the special activities of golden jubilee during the year. Special 3 day’s leadership camp was held in 19,20,21 of December 2003. One day seminars for the youth were conducted in 3 zones, and another one day camp for women was also conduced.
One day seminars were conducted for conferences presidents and AC members by the CC in 3zones.

Golden jubilee was celebrated on sept 2004 at Renewal centre Kaloor Cochin by the gathering whole members. The thanks giving holy mass by Bishop Mar Sebastian Adayanthurth. His Excellency Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil inaugurated the function, president Bro.Francis Antony presided over the function.National president Bro. Joseph Pandian relece the Golden jubilee souvenir,KRC president and National secretary facilities the function.
So many programmes were organized by CC by its own and by the help of others. Centre council starts promoting Eye donations and blood donations activities and got the appraisal awards many times. CC played a remarkable role in helping the victims of Chikkun Gunia in the year 2007. Ernakulam C.C is the biggest CC in India having 254 confrences in 21 AC and 2470 active members in the year 2007. We were the hoistes of Annual General Meeting in 2007. We strengthen the internal twinning programme by helping the weaker confererences. With the concept of vincentian family we celebrate the AC anniversaries with family members and promoting family get together in conferences. Our special attention to increase the secrete collection, local collection visits to adopted families and offer enough help to them.
